Removing pet hair from rugs

A useful tip for pet owners: this article presents a simple yet effective way to remove pet hair from rugs. The method can work even better than vacuuming alone.

If you keep pets at home, dog and cat hair can become a constant nuisance. Vacuum cleaners often struggle with hair trapped deep in the rug and may not remove it completely.

You may be willing to clean smaller rugs with a sponge, but large fitted carpets on stairs or in the living room can be much harder to deal with.

For a quick and inexpensive solution, use a rubber-bladed window squeegee. Run it across the rug, and it can work surprisingly well at lifting pet hair from the fibres.

If you have only tried a vacuum cleaner and a damp sponge so far, you may be surprised by how much pet hair a window squeegee can collect.

Press the tool firmly against the rug, then pull it across the surface in straight strokes. This method works especially well on stairs and in areas that are difficult to reach with a vacuum cleaner. Throw away the collected hair, then vacuum the entire rug thoroughly.
