Hand-knotted wool rugs are all unique pieces. No two are exactly alike. At most, you may find rugs with similar patterns and colours. However, a small irregularity, signature or mark is often deliberately hidden in the design, reflecting the individuality of the artist or rug maker. This uniqueness can also be seen in the dimensions of the rugs.
Wool is the main material used for hand-knotted rugs, although beautifully crafted silk rugs are also widely available.
Machine-made rugs are produced in standard sizes on production lines. They are usually made from viscose or synthetic fibres, although machine-made wool rugs also exist. Thanks to modern manufacturing techniques, they can now offer very good quality. They are available in attractive patterns and colours. However, while hand-knotted rugs tend to retain their value and can last a lifetime, machine-made rugs generally show wear more quickly over time.
The value of a hand-knotted rug is determined by several key factors. These include knot density, wool quality, origin, and any unique characteristics the rug possesses. Knot density plays a primary role in defining how detailed and intricate the rug’s pattern is, while wool quality determines its softness and tactile feel. Additionally, pricing is heavily influenced by the rug’s age and condition—whether it is new, like-new, or antique—as well as the dyeing process, specifically whether natural vegetables dyes or synthetic colors were used.
Wool is an exceptionally insulating material, which is why woven wool tapestries have long been favored as wall hangings. Hand-knotted wool rugs are typically crafted for floors, though both woven and knotted varieties can be displayed equally well on walls or placed on the ground. In traditional Eastern and nomadic cultures, they frequently serve as tent decorations and provide natural insulation in place of doors.
A standout feature of wool is its inherent stain resistance. For instance, if you walk across the rug with muddy shoes, simply allow the mud to dry—it can then easily be swept or vacuumed away, making routine maintenance remarkably effortless. Furthermore, wool is highly resistant to wear and tear. It creates exceptionally durable, resilient rugs that retain their quality over time.
We offer a wide selection of rugs, ranging from newly crafted pieces—primarily of Afghan origin—to pre-owned and beautifully restored carpets. Our pre-owned inventory is typically acquired through trade-in and exchange programs. Every pre-owned rug undergoes a rigorous deep-cleaning and sanitization process before ever entering our showroom alongside the rest of our collection. Naturally, these seasoned pieces also come at a more accessible price point.
Variations in color are primarily caused by the choice of dyes — whether synthetic or traditional vegetables dyes, which are becoming increasingly rare today. However, you may also notice broader horizontal bands of color variation. This typically occurs when a weaver ran out of a specific batch of wool and continued with another, or when subtle ‘imperfections’ were intentionally woven into the design.
We put a lot of effort into our product photography, doing everything we can to capture each rug’s true colors and character as accurately as possible. That said, digital images can never fully replace seeing the real material in person — lighting conditions, camera settings, and the wide variety of screens and displays out there (monitors, phones, tablets) all affect how colors actually render.
For this reason, slight differences in shades may occur between the carpet shown on the website and the actual product. These minor variations are a natural result of digital reproduction and do not affect the quality or beauty of the carpet itself.
Yes, and nothing to worry about! With brand-new rugs, some wool fibers can shed at first — a few loose threads often get caught between the knots during the weaving process, and this settles down naturally within a short time of use. Slipping tends to show up more with thinner rugs, but that usually resolves itself within a week or two, once the rug settles into the shape of the room. For kilim rugs specifically, we recommend adding a non-slip mat underneath.
Our shop is home to several thousand rugs, most of them hand-knotted, one-of-a-kind pieces — which means keeping track of them all takes real care and attention. Because of that, we don’t maintain a traditional catalog, but we’re constantly adding new pieces to our website. That said, the very best way to see our full selection is to visit us in person, where you’ll find by far the widest range of rugs waiting to be discovered.
Absolutely, we’re happy to make that happen! Just get in touch with us beforehand to arrange it — no strings attached, no obligation to buy.
We do our best to keep everything on our website accurate and up to date, but occasional typos or errors can slip through — and we ask for your understanding if that happens. Since our stock and pricing can shift from day to day, please treat the prices you see online as a helpful guide rather than the final word — we’ll always confirm the exact price with you before anything is finalized. And if our courier gives you a call to arrange delivery, please coordinate the details directly with them at that point.
Yes, you can! Custom-sized carpets are part of our range — just head to our website and search for “custom” or “wall-to-wall” to browse those options. If you’re looking for something truly one-of-a-kind — a specific size, color, or combination not currently listed — just drop us a line at info@kabiricarpet.hu and we’ll help arrange it.
The sizes and colors you see listed on our website reflect exactly what we currently have in stock. If a particular size or color isn’t showing up online, that simply means it’s temporarily out of stock.
Good news, though — since we do accept returns, that size or color can occasionally come back into stock, so it’s worth checking again in a week or two. For carpets that aren’t one-of-a-kind pieces, a soldout style may also get restocked over time. If you’re ever unsure about availability, our Customer Service team is always glad to help.
Some of our rugs are made as single, unrepeatable pieces — once it’s gone, that particular size and color combination won’t come back. In that case, we’d recommend using our search filters to browse for something similar, or reaching out to Customer Service, who can help point you toward a comparable alternative.
First things first — let the delivery driver know right away, so the damage gets logged on the consignment note before they leave. From there, reach out to our Customer Service team with a description of the issue, along with photos showing both the damage and the packaging it arrived in. One more tip: always unpack and inspect the carpet fully, since some damage isn’t visible until it’s unrolled.
If you’d like to return an item, just let us know by email. The product itself needs to come back to us unused and in perfect condition, ideally in its original packaging. fill out a request on our ’Contact’ site. The return shipping cost is covered by you, the customer. One thing to keep in mind: if the item shows signs of use beyond simply trying it out, or any resulting damage or loss in value, we may need to factor that into the refund amount.
Once your returned rug arrives back with us and passes inspection in good condition, you can expect your refund within 1-5 business days.
A card payment can fail online for a number of reasons — here are the most common ones:
Two-factor authentication issues: This extra layer of security asks you to confirm your identity a second way, often through a code sent to your phone. If that step doesn’t go through properly, the payment won’t complete. Double-check that you’re following the verification prompts closely, and make sure any adblocker extensions are switched off, since they can sometimes block the verification window from showing up.
Card restrictions on online or international purchases: Some banks automatically block cards from being used for online or cross-border transactions. If you suspect this might be the case, your bank can confirm and adjust this for you — otherwise, a different payment method might be the quicker fix.
A typo in your card details: Something as small as one wrong digit in the card number, expiry date, or CVV can cause the whole transaction to bounce. It’s always worth double-checking every field before submitting.
Reaching your credit limit: If your available credit is maxed out, the payment simply won’t go through. Check your balance beforehand, or have a backup payment method ready just in case.
Bank-side security flags: Sometimes your bank’s own fraud-prevention systems will block a transaction that looks unusual to them, even if everything on your end is correct. If this happens, a quick call to your bank can usually clear things up.
An expired card: An expired card will always be declined. Updating your card details or switching to a valid card will solve this right away.
