Year-end interview 2019

In our 2019 year-end quick interview, Jamal Abdul Naser, owner of KABIRI® Carpet, shared his experiences, plans and good wishes—offering an insight into a remarkable world through Persian rugs.

“An oriental rug is not a luxury, but lasting comfort that preserves its value!”

—said Jamal Abdul Naser, owner of KABIRI® CARPET.
A quick year-end interview with the company director.

—As last year, with the New Year approaching, I would once again like to ask Mr JAMAL: what experiences or possible adjustments has this year brought regarding the operation of the store?

In line with the strengthening of the Hungarian economy, the store’s turnover exceeded the 2018 figure by approximately 5–9%.

Which rug types proved to be the most popular?

—So-called classic-patterned, handwoven rugs remain highly popular among our customers, while the modern selection is also in great demand.

How does the annual volume of purchases reflect the different seasonal periods? When does demand increase?

—Turnover remains fairly steady from September to June, while major holidays such as Christmas, New Year and Easter bring an increase in customer numbers. Interest is lower in July and August, which is understandable, as people are resting and going on holiday.

The store is in a sensational location from a geographical point of view: close to Széll Kálmán Square, at the meeting point of Districts I, II and XII. Easy accessibility has been—and will continue to be—an important convenience for customers. What could still be improved?

—The store’s accessibility is a major advantage, but one important element is missing: a dedicated parking and loading area. We once had such a space, but it was taken over by a BKV bus stop and nothing was provided in its place. We are a service provider just like any other business, such as CBA, and a loading and parking space would improve convenience for local residents. It would be helpful to raise this matter with the new Mayor’s Office as well, in order to find a solution. Naturally, we are prepared to cover our share of the costs.

—Which advertising tools and media—such as neon signs, advertisements, direct mail, the internet, online shop windows and presentations—proved most successful in reaching customers in Budapest and elsewhere in the country?

Given the overwhelming volume of advertising today, our usual product information materials deliver the expected results. However, our animated neon sign highlighting current promotions appears to attract many customers into the store. I hope the Municipality of District XII will continue to allow our illuminated sign to flash in its current standard size, in line with the practices and regulations of Budapest’s other districts!…

—The services offered by KABIRI® Carpet are exemplary: free in-home trials and delivery, cleaning, repairs, restoration, exchanges, valuations, interior design advice and rug rental. Does the management plan to expand this portfolio further?

—For the time being, we would like to refine and perfect these services. To do so, however, we would need additional storage facilities and service areas. In the interests of Budapest residents, we would also welcome municipal support, such as favourable financing. I hope the relevant authorities will listen to our ideas and strategic plans…

Do your plans for the near future include opening KABIRI outlets, shops or distribution points in cities across the Great Hungarian Plain and Transdanubia to strengthen regional distribution?

—There have been some attempts, and we remain open to opportunities in this area. We would be pleased to cooperate with a reliable and serious business partner. We can provide sufficient stock, ensure continuous supply and offer further support. We welcome enquiries.

Finally, dear Managing Director, what would you like to wish your valued Budapest customers for 2020?

—On behalf of myself and my colleagues, I would like to wish not only our customers from Budapest, but also those visiting us from elsewhere in Hungary and from neighbouring countries, a very Merry Christmas. I trust that the rugs representing our company bring beauty, warmth and a sense of trust into our customers’ homes, while making their everyday lives more comfortable…

With these thoughts, I wish everyone great success, good health and a

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
