The development of Ziegler rugs began with Ziegler & Co., an Anglo-Swiss company that established production in the Arak region of Iran in the 1870s. These refined rugs became known for their soft colours and simple yet striking patterns. This Afghan version features a distinctive patchwork-inspired design that gives the traditional Ziegler style a more contemporary character. Its balanced composition works well in both modern and classic interiors. Today, artisans make new Ziegler-style rugs in Afghanistan, where they are often called Chobi rugs. The word “Chobi” means “wood” in Persian and refers to the natural shades traditionally created with plant-based dyes.
