The true beauty of an oriental rug lies in its complete uniqueness. At the same time, the range of available styles and colours is so extensive that you can be confident of finding exactly what you are looking for. A truly fine rug will accompany you throughout your life and is valuable enough to justify investing sufficient time and care in the purchase. Its colours, size and patterns should be considered in relation to the room it will decorate, ensuring that all the elements complement one another.

Fontosak a szoba arányai, mekkora a belmagassága? Természetes fény árad-e be vagy inkább sötét? Bármilyenek is legyenek a főbb jellegzetességek, azok ismeretében el kell dönteni, hogy kiegészíteni vagy éppen ellenpontozni akarjuk a szőnyeggel, Általánosságban: a gazdagon díszített,városi műhelyekben készült szőnyegek jól illenek az antik bútorhoz; a modern szobákban inkább az élénk színű, harsány, absztrakt mintázatú szőnyegek mutatnak jól. Soha ne vásároljunk szőnyeget pusztán azért, mert illika függönyhöz! A függöny élettartama 10-15-év lehet, míg egy jól karbantartott szőnyeg kitart mellettünk életünk végéig, tehát csak olyat válasszunk, amelyik önmagáért tetszik.
The proportions of the room are important. How high is the ceiling? Does the space receive plenty of natural light, or is it relatively dark? Whatever its main characteristics, you should decide whether the rug should complement them or create a deliberate contrast.
As a general rule, richly decorated rugs made in urban workshops pair well with antique furniture, while brightly coloured rugs with bold, abstract patterns often work better in modern interiors. Never choose a rug simply because it matches the curtains! Curtains may last 10–15 years, but a well-maintained rug can remain with you for a lifetime, so choose one that you genuinely love in its own right.

Although appearance, colour, pattern and size are the most important considerations when buying a rug, you should also take into account how much wear it will need to withstand. For example, a strong wool rug is a sensible choice for an entrance hall.
Size is another important factor. When placing a rug in a dining room, make sure it is wide enough for the chairs to be pulled back without catching the edges when pushed in again. The surface beneath the rug also matters. Wood, stone tiles or polished flooring provide an attractive background for an oriental rug, but it is important to place a non-slip underlay beneath it.
Oriental rugs can also be used as wall decorations. They should be professionally cleaned at least once every five years and rotated regularly to prevent uneven wear.
